The British government complains that for every new recruit in the Armed Forces, there are three who leave.
The UK Defense Journal reported on this.
The statement was made by Mark Francois MP in a Public Accounts Committee session examining the Defence Equipment Plan 2023-33.
“People are leaving the Armed Forces at a ratio of three people leaving for every one who joins,” Francois said.
Militarnyi previously reported that the United Kingdom is considering the possibility of military training for the civilian population.
This proposal was voiced by British General Patrick Sanders. Gen. Sanders stressed the need for a ‘shift’ in the minds of the British public to understand that the UK is under threat.
Although Gen. Sanders does not support conscription, he stressed that in the event of a war with Russia, every Briton should understand military affairs and have basic skills in handling weapons.
Training of the civilian population will not be regular and may take place once a Sunday. The general came up with the idea of creating a “citizen army” after the cuts announced by the Ministry of Defense began.
On January 15, it was reported that the United Kingdom would send 20,000 troops to participate in large-scale NATO exercises in Europe.
The Alliance’s largest post-Cold War exercise, Steadfast Defender 24, will take place in the first half of this year.
The aim of the military manoeuvres is to practice defending NATO’s eastern flank.
Service personnel from the British Army, warships, and aircraft will deploy across Europe to take part in Exercise Steadfast Defender 24.
