The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence selected a replacement for the existing fleet of AS-90 artillery systems.
This was reported on the UK Ministry of Defense’s official page in X.
As part of the logical conclusion of the Mobile Fires Platform program, the Ministry of Defense announced that the German RCH155 wheeled self-propelled artillery system was chosen to replace the existing fleet of self-propelled artillery systems.
The choice of this system was made due to the relatively high level of localization, as well as the excellent passing of firing tests, where it demonstrated a high rate of fire, speed of deployment, and tear-down time.
The ACS will be manufactured in Germany and the United Kingdom. The artillery modules and guns will be made in Germany, and the Boxer base will be produced in Britain.
As part of the Mobile Fires Platform new artillery system procurement program, the German RCH155, Swedish Archer, and Korean K9 Thunder were shortlisted for the final round.
Currently, the contract’s details, as well as the deadlines for its implementation and the total number of vehicles to be ordered, are not officially disclosed.
However, according to the Ministry of Defense, the new systems are expected to upgrade two artillery regiments of the British Army by 100% and potentially allow for the expansion of self-propelled artillery.
Militarnyi previously reported that a representative of the UK Ministry of Defense told the parliament what weapons will be decommissioned by 2030.
The weapons to be decommissioned include AS-90 artillery systems, which could potentially be transferred to Ukraine in the future.
