The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the United Kingdom.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress on this possible sale.
The Government of the United Kingdom has requested to buy 513 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLUs).
The new LWCLU control panels should be almost two kilograms lighter than the standard ones and smaller in size.
The package includes training, simulators, additional taxation, support of the life cycle of the system, technical assistance.
‘This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement said.
The LWCLU is a control panel that is the only component of the Javelin system and is intended for multiple use.
The basic module consists of: body, impact absorbers, grips, battery compartment, optical sight, thermal sight, eyepiece, socket for connecting to training equipment and socket for connecting to the missile.
And other related elements of logistical and program support.
The total estimated program cost is $300 million.
The principal contractor will be the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV). Javelin Joint Venture is a joint venture between Raytheon Missiles & Defense and Lockheed Martin.
Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any U.S. Government or contractor representatives to the United Kingdom.
