Ukrainian border guards successfully destroyed a TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system, on Russian soil.
The operation was skillfully executed by the drone operators of the Forpost Brigade of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The target was located in the Vovchansk sector, near the village of Voznesenovka in the Russian Belgorod region.
According to the analysts at WarArchive, this heavy flamethrower system was only 4 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border.
However, the Ukrainian FPV drone managed to fly deep into enemy territory and accurately strike the enemy’s launcher.
“Destroying such equipment significantly weakens the enemy’s artillery capabilities,” emphasized the Forpost Brigade.
TOS-1A is considered one of the most devastating systems in the Russian arsenal. It is designed to destroy fortifications, equipment, and enemy personnel.
This system uses thermobaric munitions that create a powerful blast wave and extremely high temperatures in the impact zone. Such munitions are especially dangerous in urban areas or fortified positions, where they can cause widespread destruction.
The invaders use this weapon to shell the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions and Ukrainian settlements with the aim of causing destruction and breaking through the defenses.
Solntsepyok uses MO.1.01.04M 220 mm thermobaric shells, which are 3,700 mm long and weigh 217 kg. Despite its great destructive power, its range is limited to 6 kilometers.
“That’s why every destruction of a TOS-1A is a success for the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” the border guards said.
Previously, the pilots of the 412th Separate Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment NEMESIS of the Unmanned Systems Forces also destroyed a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system.
