The Ukrainian-made Bohdana-B towed howitzer will receive a new carriage by the end of 2025.

This was announced by a representative of the manufacturer of this artillery system in a video from the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

Currently, Bohdana-B uses a carriage from the Soviet-era Giatsint-B gun. This was due to the need for a rapid development of a towed version of the Ukrainian-made 155mm howitzer.

To speed up the development and testing in the military, existing carriages were used, which had returned to storage bases due to the wear and tear of the artillery parts and the shortage of specific ammunition for the Soviet-era howitzer.

The report explains that towed howitzers have several significant advantages over self-propelled counterparts. The key ones include much higher survivability on the battlefield, simplicity of operation, and lower cost.

This became the reason for the development of the Ukrainian-made Bohdana-B to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces using available resources.

The prototype of the Bohdana-B was publicly presented for the first time only at the end of last year. It is known that Ukrainian manufacturers had been working on it since at least December 2023.

In March, it became known that the towed cannon had been adopted by the 47th Artillery Brigade.

The development of the trailer version is not a replacement for the existing Bohdana self-propelled howitzers, but rather a supplement and a way to quickly equip artillery units with a high-quality and long-range system.

Last year, Militarnyi published an article that estimated the possible cost of the trailer version at $1.5 million, while the self-propelled howitzer costs €2.3-2.8 million for the state.

The soldiers of the 48th Artillery Brigade, who were among the first to receive the Ukrainian-made Bohdana self-propelled howitzers, shared in February how they were currently operating them, as well as the features of their use compared to other artillery systems.
