Boeing has decided to stop production of AH-6 Little Bird light multipurpose helicopters.
This was reported by The War Zone.
The last machines will be manufactured under a contract with the Thai Armed Forces, which provides for the supply of eight helicopters. The agreement was signed in February 2022, and its value is estimated at $104 million.
Over the past 15 years, Boeing has been able to sell AH-6s to only two countries – Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
The company notes that production can be maintained if a new customer appears in the near future.
MD Helicopters, which also produces its own versions of the Little Bird, will continue production.
By comparison, MD Helicopters has achieved significant success in both the military and civilian markets.
Its helicopters are widely used by the US Special Operations Forces, the Republic of Korea, and were also supplied to the Air Force of the former Afghanistan.
At the same time, it remains to be seen whether Korean Air, which had previously mastered the production of AH-6 fuselages, will produce these helicopters.
Back in 2023, Boeing announced that it would stop production of the F/A-18 Super Hornet multi-role fighter in 2025.
In the future, Boeing will focus on supporting the life cycle of the fighter jets and carrying out their repair and modernization.
Over the next decade, the company plans to upgrade all Block II F/A-18s to the Block III version.
