Boeing has confirmed the end of its campaign to promote F-15 fighter jets to Indonesia.
This refers to the rejection of the proposed purchase of 24 F-15EX fighter jets in 2023, which Jakarta considered a key element of its air force modernization, according to Reuters.
Thus, the F-15IDN program, a special export version for Indonesia, has effectively lost its active status.
The decision was announced on February 3 during an air show in Singapore by a representative of Boeing’s defense division.
Boeing Defense Vice President of Business Development Bernd Peters said that the partnership with Indonesia on the F-15 is no longer an active campaign for the company.
According to him, any further comments on the project’s prospects should be directed to the US and Indonesian governments.
The F-15EX proposal dates back to 2023, when the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and Boeing signed a framework agreement on the possible sale of aircraft under the FMS procedure.
The agreement required US government approval and was presented at the time as the basis for upgrading the country’s combat aircraft fleet.
Indonesia planned to purchase a modified version of the F-15EX under the designation F-15IDN, adapted to national operational requirements.
In August 2023, the parties confirmed their intentions with a memorandum, stating that the aircraft would enhance long-range air defense and maritime strike capabilities.
At the same time, Indonesia is implementing other rearmament programs in parallel, including the purchase of French Rafale aircraft, to diversify its sources of combat aircraft supply.
The US recently resumed negotiations on the potential sale of F-15s to Egypt.
