U.S. President Joe Biden opposes the use of American weapons for strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Moscow.
He stated this in an interview with ABC News.
Baden made this statement following the recent granting of limited permission for Ukraine to use U.S. weapons on Russian territory.
However, according to the U.S. President, this does not apply to strikes on targets deep in Russia.
ABC News anchor David Muir asked Biden if U.S.-made weapons have already been used to strike Russian territory after Kyiv received permission from the U.S. for limited strikes to protect the Kharkiv region.
The US President did not give a direct answer but made it clear that these weapons would not be used to strike the Russian capital or the Kremlin.
“They’re (Ukrainians — ed.) authorized to be used in proximity to the border when they’re being used on the other side of the border to attack specific targets in Ukraine,” Biden emphasized.
He also clarified that Ukraine cannot use American weapons to strike more than 320 kilometers (200 miles) into Russian territory.
“We’re not authorizing strikes 200 miles into Russia, and we’re not authorizing strikes on Moscow, on the Kremlin,” Biden said.
Militarnyi previously reported that U.S. President Joe Biden instructed his team to change its position on the possibility of Ukraine using U.S. weapons to strike military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.
This decision is aimed at disrupting the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, which began on May 10. However, this authorization does not apply to the use of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.
On Monday, June 3, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine is working to expand the area of use of the weapons transferred by its partners inside Russia.
