Joe Biden has sent a new request to the U.S. Congress for approval of another aid package for Ukraine to assist its struggle against Russian aggression.
This information was confirmed by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
This package provides $ 33 billion to support Ukraine.
“I have just signed a request to the US Congress to provide critical defence, economic and humanitarian support to help Ukraine continue its opposition against Putin’s aggression at this critical juncture,” he said.
In this regard, he stressed that “it is extremely important for this funding to be approved (in Congress – ed.) as quickly as possible.”
Biden emphasized that the US is not attacking Russia.
“We’re helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, and just as Putin had chosen to launch this brutal invasion, he could make the choice to put an end to it, ” he said.
According to the U.S. administration, the request involves the allocation of $ 33 billion.
Among others, the funding request includes $20.4 billion of military assistance for Ukraine, $8.5 billion of economic aid and $3 billion of humanitarian assistance, as well as funds for supporting food security measures.
In addition, Biden announced a proposal to the U.S. Congress to implement a package of measures to prosecute Russian government officials and oligarchs responsible for the war in Ukraine.
In March, the United States allocated $ 13.6 billion from the budget for emergency response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Most of the funding from this package was spent on defence and other support for Ukraine.
In addition, the previous package provided support for US allies on NATO’s eastern flank, supplying the operational mission of the US European Command, the deployment of US troops in the region, replenishment of Pentagon reserves and support of intelligence.
