The U.S. Presidential Administration has $10 billion available for aiding Ukraine under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program.
This was reported by Colby Badhwar, a journalist for the English-language version of The Insider.
U.S. assistance to Ukraine is provided through three main programs, one of which is the USAI.
Under this program, weapons are either ordered directly from manufacturers or purchased from partner countries.
According to Badhwar, between October 16 and December 19, the Biden administration allocated an additional $1 billion in USAI funding but signed contracts for only $13 million of previously allocated funds.
“USAI still has about $10 billion in appropriated funding that has not yet been contracted,” Colby explained.
This leaves open the possibility that the new Trump administration may try to use these funds differently.
“The Biden administration’s disposal of the USAI program will go down in history as the biggest failure in the history of U.S. security programs,” the journalist noted.
To date, the U.S. defense industrial base has received $57.9 billion.
This amount will exceed $80 billion if all funds are allocated.
