Belgium will start its own production of drones and anti-drone systems in cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry.

This was announced by Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken on the Bonjour Bruxelles program on the BX1 channel.

According to Francken, the use of Ukrainian technologies will allow production facilities to be deployed directly in Belgium. This applies to both the drones themselves and the systems for intercepting enemy unmanned aerial vehicles.

To this end, the Belgian government will sign a contract with a Ukrainian company. The minister acknowledged that the Belgian army currently lacks sufficient quantities of such weapons.

“We bought some and invested in order to have more equipment than before. But we still need to invest much more,” the minister added.

In December last year, the German company Quantum Systems and the Ukrainian drone manufacturer Frontline Robotics announced the creation of a joint venture, Quantum Frontline Industries.

The new company plans to scale up the production of Ukrainian defense solutions using German automation expertise. The project is being implemented as part of the international initiative Build with Ukraine.
