Belgium will contribute €100 million this year to purchase American weapons for Ukraine.

Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal announced this on X.

He highlighted that the funds were part of NATO’s new initiative, the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).

Shmyhal also emphasized that the aid package supplemented €1B euros in military assistance Belgium had already provided.

I am deeply grateful to my colleague Theo Francken, as well as to the Belgian people and government, for their unwavering support of Ukraine in our fight for freedom,” Shmyhal said.

As previously reported, the US and NATO have launched a new mechanism to provide American weapons to Ukraine – the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.

The aim is to quickly supply Ukraine with weapons systems that can be provided in sufficient quantities by the United States – in order to strengthen defense capabilities and create conditions for achieving a just and lasting peace.

The mechanism allows NATO member countries and partners to fund the delivery of American weapons and technology through voluntary contributions.
