Alexander Lukashenko ordered the transfer of some military equipment from Belarusian units to the Russian military.
The Belarusian publication Belnovosti reported on this with reference to a source in the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.
According to the source, this is due to an urgent request from the Russian side due to losses and lack of equipment, both in the Kursk region and in other sectors.
This is not the first time that self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has transferred equipment and ammunition to Russia.
However, as the publication notes, while in 2022 Belarus transferred ammunition and equipment from warehouses, now it is transferring it from its own military units.
This may indicate that Belarus’ depots and arsenals were emptied in 2022-2023.
At the moment, Alexander Lukashenko can only transfer equipment from his military units at Russia’s request.
Belarus’s support for Russia’s war in Ukraine has resulted in the Belarusian armed forces being unable to conduct their own combat operations.
Belarus is not able to produce its own armored combat vehicles, making the transfer of equipment to Russian troops a long-term limitation of the material potential of the Belarusian mechanized forces to participate in the fighting in Ukraine.
The country has also likely significantly reduced its stockpile of artillery ammunition by transferring ammunition to the Russian military.
At the same time, Belarusian officials are trying to disguise the amount of military equipment they are sending to Russia to support its invasion of Ukraine.
As previously reported, Belarus continues to deploy units of the Special Operations Forces on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
