A new air assault unit is currently being established in Belarus and will be stationed near the border with Ukraine.

Belta reported on this, citing Vadim Denisenko, Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces.

In an interview with the Belarusian television channel First Informational, Denisenko announced that the formation of a new airborne assault brigade within the Special Operations Forces is already underway.

He noted that, as of today, the Belarusian Special Operations Forces are significantly strengthening their ranks with new units.

According to him, strengthening the southern direction is currently a priority for Belarus, as he considers it to be a tense area.

“As of today, we have already begun forming this brigade. One of the battalions has already been established,” Vadim Denisenko stated.

He also added that an anti-aircraft missile regiment has been incorporated into the Special Operations Forces, and a rocket artillery regiment is currently being formed.

It is worth noting that Belarus is currently considering amendments to the law on martial law, which would allow for the introduction of this legal regime in response to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

The draft law “On Amendments to Laws on Ensuring Military Security and Defense” provides, in particular, for the clarification and specification of the tasks of the Armed Forces and the functions of the General Staff in ensuring the military security and armed defense of the Republic of Belarus.

It also includes aligning the list of military threats that may serve as grounds for the introduction of martial law with the country’s military doctrine.

Among these threats are acts of armed aggression by any state (or coalition of states) against the Union State, which would be considered grounds for declaring martial law.

It is worth noting that the treaty establishing the Union State between Russia and Belarus was signed back in 1999. The agreement envisions the gradual integration of the two countries across various sectors.
