Belarus plans to launch mass production of VSK-100 assault rifles by the end of 2026.
This was announced by the State Secretary of the Security Council of the country, Alexander Volfovich, noting that the weapon will be 100% localized, reports News.by.
The new development will be supplied to the army and other law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Belarus. In addition to the VSK-100, the troops will continue to use AK-74 assault rifles.
Work on the creation of a Belarusian assault rifle chambered for 7.62 x 39 mm cartridges began in 2017 through the efforts of the companies Belspetsvneshtechnika and BSVT – New Technologies.
Production started in January 2020 in the village of Stankovo, Minsk region. This model became the first domestically produced small arms officially adopted by Belarus.
In terms of design, the VSK-100 is an automatic version of the Vepr-1V series carbine. The line of weapons includes several modifications, among which are the VSK-100BP model in a bullpup configuration and the SMAR-100BPM version. A VSK-100-223 variant chambered for the NATO 5.56 x 45 mm cartridge has also been developed. The manufacturer guarantees a barrel life of 20,000 rounds.
In October 2021, a batch of 406 VSK-100 units was delivered to the police of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In addition, a modification for the .223 Rem caliber was tested in Indonesia, where the marines tested the weapon by firing it after immersion in seawater, mud, and sand.
