Lukashenko instructed to create a “people’s militia” in the country to strengthen the country’s defense. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin pointed out that this will ” greatly increase the number of defenders of the country”.

This became known during a conversation of the head of the country’s defense ministry with journalists at the meeting “Military Security and Defense of the State”.

Khrenin noted that such a decision was made for the development of the armed forces.

“At yesterday’s meeting, as part of the adjustment of issues related to the development of the Armed Forces, the commander–in–chief (Alexander Lukashenko – Ed.) has set a task about creating a “people’s militia” in our country… The most important thing is that we have both people and weapons for this,” he said.

He added that this issue will be discussed with the governors and a legislative justification will be prepared.

“We also need to discuss these issues with the governors, define it in terms of law. And we are well aware that the number of defenders of our motherland will increase significantly,” Khrenin said.

Previously, Lukashenko has ordered a new military command of the Belarusian armed forces on the border with Ukraine.

According to him, in addition to the fronts with Lithuania and Poland, a new direction has opened – the south. Lukashenko explained the reasons for this decision by the alleged threat from Ukraine.
