Lukashenko and Putin have agreed to deploy a joint regional group of troops.
This was announced by the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus.
The statement was made during today’s meeting with the military and security forces.
The group will be based on the Army of Belarus.
“In connection with the escalation on the western borders of the Union State (Union State of Russia and Belarus- ed.), we agreed to deploy a regional grouping (of troops – ed.) of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
This is all according to our documents. If the threat level reaches the current level, as it is now, we begin to use the grouping of the Union State. The basis (I always talked about it) of this group is the army, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus,” Lukashenko said.
He said that he had issued an order to form this group earlier.
“I must inform you that the formation of this group has begun. It is already, in my opinion, within two days,” Lukashenko said.
Earlier, the representative of the Defence Intelligence Vadym Skibitsky said that Russia does not abandon attempts to involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine.
“Meetings between Putin and Lukashenko are constantly held, where this issue is discussed, and Putin is trying to persuade Lukashenko to make this decision,” Skibitsky said.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has also handed a note to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Minsk Ihor Kyzym on October 8, where it claims that Ukraine allegedly plans to strike at Belarus.
The Ukrainian diplomatic department denied this information and urged the people of Belarus not to succumb to provocations and propaganda.
