The war in Ukraine caused adjustments in Estonia’s military planning.
“European Pravda” writes about it with reference to ERR.
The Ministry of Defence of this Baltic state stated that the defense plans will be revised in accordance with the tactics used by the Russian Federation in conducting hostilities.
It is reported that over the four months of ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, Russia has been using different methods of combat.
The Estonian military believes that as of now, the tactics of Russia’s occupation forces have turned classic in the form of massive artillery strikes on the narrow front line and subsequent breakthroughs by infantry units.
Within the updated defense plans, Estonia has already made an agreement with Latvia to jointly purchase the new air defense systems.
The corresponding Protocol of intent was signed by Kalle Laanet, Minister of Defense of Estonia, and Artis Pabriks, Minister of Defense of Latvia during the NATO summit in Madrid.
In addition, at the NATO summit in Madrid, a decision was made to dispatch additional NATO forces to Estonia.
Great Britain will increase its military contingent in Estonia to the size of a brigade, and as a result, an entire division of NATO troops will be formed in Estonia.
Also, in Estonia, the construction of the first section of the wall at the border with Russia was recently completed. 23.5 km of barriers were built at the Luhamaa border crossing point.
Construction was launched in May 2020 and was expected to be completed by 2023, but the works were finished earlier. 20 million euros were allocated to the construction of the first stage of the wall, however, the contractor used less money and spent 1 million euros less.
Construction of the second part of the border section has already begun.
