Tests of the high-precision artillery munition Barvinok-K are currently underway in Ukraine.
The trials aim to verify the munition’s declared tactical and technical performance, Colonel Andrii Zhuravlov, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Missile Forces and Artillery Command of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, told RBC-Ukraine in an interview.
Barvinok-K is a guided artillery shell designed to destroy point targets with a first-round hit.
The system is a further development of the Kvitnyk guided shell project.
In 2020, Militarnyi reported that after import substitution, Kvitnyk was renamed Barvinok and was being prepared for state trials.
At the time, the key change was the elimination of foreign components.
The munition uses a semi-active laser guidance seeker, which allows the shell’s flight to be corrected during the terminal phase of its trajectory.
The project is intended for use with barrel artillery systems of the corresponding calibers.
High-precision munitions of this class reduce ammunition consumption and time required to engage a target.
The results of the current trials will determine the future of Barvinok-K and the prospects for its serial production.
Previously, the Shturm-SM self-propelled anti-tank missile system successfully completed state trials.
