President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed Ukrainian drone manufacturers to ensure the capacity to deploy at least 1,000 interceptor drones per day.

On Friday, July 25, Zelenskyy said on social media that he had visited a facility producing these drones.

“Ukraine knows how to create advanced solutions and continues to lead in life-saving technologies. The task for manufacturers is clear: ensure the ability to deploy at least 1,000 interceptors per day,” Zelenskyy wrote.

He added that the government is funding drone procurement and working with international partners to prevent a funding shortfall.

On July 24, Zelenskyy said that four Ukrainian companies are currently producing interceptor drones, with a total of ten factories expected to join the effort.

It is estimated that $6 billion will be needed for interceptor drone production, while Ukraine’s broader annual demand for drones, electronic warfare equipment and missiles stands at roughly $25 billion.

Several Ukrainian companies are developing interceptors designed to destroy Shahed-type kamikaze drones. One such engagement was recently recorded over Odesa, where a Ukrainian drone collided with a Shahed in mid-air, destroying it.

These interceptors are capable of flying at high speeds with extreme precision, making them effective against incoming Russian aerial threats.
Their deployment could significantly bolster air defenses around Ukrainian cities and reduce casualties and damage from drone strikes.

The interceptors can accelerate to several hundred kilometers per hour in under a second.

The drones are equipped with high-explosive fragmentation warheads optimized to neutralize UAVs. The warheads have a lethal radius of several meters, allowing for effective destruction even without a direct hit.

The Ukrainian drone group Wild Hornets recently completed a large batch of interceptors designed to counter the Shahed threat. In 2024, the Sting interceptor was introduced, a system purpose-built to destroy Russian-Iranian kamikaze drones.
