In Armenia, a local company has developed a domestic bullpup assault rifle.

Maktes Arms, a newly established company, said it will be developing weapons from scratch or developing entirely new concepts and innovative solutions.

“We aim to become a leading player in the local, regional, and global markets,” the company noted.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan, a former Armenian Ministry of Defense spokesman, shared the details of the new weapon.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan contributed to the creation of the new weapon. He found investors for a young team of gunsmiths and worked with them on the assault rifle.

“In 2020, two very gifted and exceptional young people who knew weapons well came to discuss my idea of creating this weapon,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan shared.

In Armenian weapons, the firing mechanism and magazine are located in the stock behind the trigger. This arrangement is called a bullpup.

This arrangement makes it possible to increase the barrel’s length without increasing the weapon’s overall length, which positively affects range and accuracy.

Modern military doctrines attach great importance to urban warfare.

In these conditions, the compactness of the bullpup is especially valuable and appreciated by anti-terrorist units. The bullpup has virtually no recoil arm, meaning the carbine bounces much less when firing a burst.

The company is also developing another project in parallel, which is being kept secret.

Recently, it was announced that the Armenian Ministry of Defense plans to outfit the national armed forces with American-made uniforms.
