In the Kursk oblast, the Ukrainian military managed to capture a new Russian Buran armored vehicle.
The Ukrainian state-run Army TV channel reported that the vehicle had been seized by the 61st Separate Mechanised Brigade.
The armored vehicle was captured without damage and immediately used against its former owners.
The trophy Buran ASV by RIDA is a military-grade off-road cargo vehicle.
Unlike its classmate, the GAZ-233014 Tiger, which has been adopted by Russia, the Buran armored vehicle has a body built on a four-wheel drive truck chassis.
It was first introduced in 2017. The vehicle is based on the chassis of the GAZ-3308 Sadko truck.
Both vehicles are similar in size: Buran is slightly longer, by 685 mm, and the Tiger is 140 mm wider.
The vehicle has a reinforced frame and an upgraded suspension, which have improved the vehicle’s cross-country ability. The armored vehicle is also equipped with cameras and a monitor.
The absence of a standard armament turret is noteworthy, which may limit combat capabilities of the vehicle.
The manufacturer states that the level of protection corresponds to the 2nd according to STANAG 4569 – against 7.62 mm bullets, against some fragments and against a mine with a charge of 6 kg of explosive.
The vehicle is powered by a YAMZ-534 210 hp four-stroke engine, which allows it to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Since the beginning of the fighting in the Kursk oblast, Ukrainian paratroopers have captured seven enemy tanks of various models.
