The Ukrainian army is creating strike companies of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this.

According to the military, such units are being created for the first time in the world.

It is reported that the creation of UAV strike companies as part of the Defense Forces was approved by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

Their creation is taking place within the “Army of Drones” project.

“Together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, a Coordination Headquarters was created with key ministries and services for the full implementation of the project,” the General Staff said.

It is pointed out that now it is necessary to implement a number of key reforms and scale up the production of drones in order to supply them to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The military noted that the most professional servicemen who will lead the strike companies have already been selected. Each of them is to receive drones and ammunition, as well as Starlink for communications and other necessary equipment.

The General Staff reported that the main partner for the training of assault troops will be the Boryviter military school.

The military command does not specify which drones these units will be equipped with. These may be kamikaze drones of different classes with different warheads and flight ranges, so the combat tasks can be performed at different distances.

As previously reported, the Ukrainian special unit “Kryla” is creating its own flotilla of 1,000 FPV kamikaze drones. These modified drones are used as guided loitering munition at a distance of up to 10 kilometers.

Cameras on the drone and modern means of communication allow the operator to control the aircraft in “real-time” mode, while remaining at a safe distance from the enemy.
