Russian forces destroyed in Dnipro the warehouse of Optima-Pharm, one of the two largest pharmaceutical distributors in the country, which supplied the southern regions of Ukraine.
Ekonomichna Pravda reported on this, citing information from Optima-Pharm.
The warehouse was completely destroyed, but none of the employees were injured. The amount of damage is currently unknown. The destroyed warehouse had been serving the southern regions of Ukraine.
This is already the third attack on Optima-Pharm’s warehouses. The first attack took place on August 28 – at that time, as a result of a missile strike on Kyiv, the Russians destroyed one warehouse facility and the medicines stored in it.
On October 25, another attack was carried out in Kyiv, which destroyed the company’s warehouse complex and office. The damages were then estimated at around $100 million. According to estimates, the attack destroyed 20% of Ukraine’s monthly supply of medicine.
Optima-Pharm is one of the two largest pharmaceutical distributors in Ukraine. Sources in the pharmaceutical market interviewed by the publication estimate its market share at 43%.
According to the Geneva Conventions, “medical units,” which also include warehouses of medical supplies and pharmaceutical depots, “must be respected and protected at all times and must not be the object of attack.” Therefore, systematic, targeted attacks on medicine warehouses constitute yet another war crime committed by Russia.
