On November 24, another prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place, during which 50 people returned home.
Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, reported this.
According to the SSU, this is the result of the work of the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War, which implemented the decision of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
“Today, we managed to return 50 Ukrainian soldiers from Russian captivity. These include 20 National Guardsmen, 12 Navy guys, 10 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 6 State Border Guard Service representatives, and 2 members of the Territorial Defense Forces,” Andriy Yermak said.
He added those released included two officers and 48 privates and sergeants.
“It is important that we managed to return 19 Mariupol defenders, 12 of whom were evacuated from Azovstal, as well as 15 prisoners from the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, and 7 from Zmiyinyi Island,” he clarified.
On Wednesday, November 23, another prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place, during which 36 people returned home.
Those released included the defenders of Mariupol from “Azovstal” and national guardsmen taken prisoner at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant in the first days of the invasion.
In total, 22 national guardsmen, 8 border guards, 4 soldiers of the Naval Forces, and 1 soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were released from captivity. The freed civilian, unfortunately, had his leg amputated.
Before that, the last exchange of prisoners occurred on October 29, when 52 military personnel, which included defenders of Azovstal and a sailor from Zmiyiniy Island, returned to Ukraine.
The largest exchange of captive women took place in October when 108 Ukrainian women returned home.
The process was noticeably accelerated after the exchange of over a hundred Azov Regiment soldiers and commanders from Azovstal at the end of September. All, with the exception of five commanders, who will stay in Turkey until the end of the war under the terms of the exchange, are already home.
