The Rheinmetall to supply the Skyguard 3 air defense system to an unnamed foreign customer.

Rheinmetall will also supply ammunition and spare parts for the anti-aircraft system.

The contract is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

The total value of the order is around €65 million.

The Skyguard 3 system has paired 35-mm GDF009 guns for AHEAD ammunition (also produced by Rheinmetall – Ed.) with the possibility of an explosion in the air to destroy enemy aircraft.

The order is of great importance to Rheinmetall. It strengthens existing customer relations, and underscores the high degree of confidence in Rheinmetall’s world-leading expertise in the field of ground-based air defense.

The Skyguard 3 air defense system is the third generation of the legendary Skyguard air defense product line.

Its primary purpose is effective point defense against many types of air threats, including cruise missiles and high-speed missiles with a small radar pattern.

Also medium- and short-range aircraft, helicopters and UAVs. In addition, the system is characterized by high mobility, ease of deployment and operation.

Skyguard combines modern means of identifying targets, tracking sensors, modern fire control and ballistic calculations for two guns and a high rate of fire of up to 1100 rounds per minute.

The system is equipped with a modern fire control network processor and can receive and process data from fire control units as well as 3D and 2D search radars such as X-TAR3D. It can be controlled remotely or autonomously hit targets using a built-in sensor unit.

The towed self-leveling trolley makes deployment and transportation easy.
