An ammunition depot exploded on the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, near the mothballed Oktyabrskoye military air base.
The Crimean Wind Telegram channel reported on this.
Reports of explosions at the warehouse, located between the villages of Shyroke and Leninske, appeared on August 6 at 5 p.m. The warehouse itself is located at coordinates 45°16’07″N 34°05’21″E.
The fire was not recorded on NASA’s fire monitoring service, which can be attributed to cloud cover.
After the detonation of ammunition began, the occupation authorities of Crimea announced a temporary suspension of railway traffic on the Simferopol-Dzhankoi route, and later a suspension of vehicular traffic.
In addition, it is reported that local residents are staying in basements due to the scattering of ammunition. Residents report that a munition hit a residential building in the village of Krasnoznamenka, which is almost 6 km from the depots.
The Crimean Wind Telegram channel notes that although the Oktyabrskoye military air base is not in use, it stores ammunition for the Russian invasion forces.
The detonation of ammunition and localized fires caused by their scattering continued throughout the night.
The cause of the incident has not been disclosed. It could be either negligence and safety violations, sabotage, or drone attacks.
On August 2, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed a Russian submarine and an S-400 air defense system in temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to the Ukrainian military, a Rostov-na-Donu submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was successfully hit in the port of temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
As a result of the hit, the Russian submarine sank on the spot, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
