A US military V-22 Osprey aircraft crashed into the ocean off the coast of Japan.

The Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on this.

The US aircraft was reportedly carrying eight servicemen.

According to a spokesman for the Japanese Coast Guard, an Osprey aircraft belonging to the US military crashed off the coast of the Japanese island of Yakushima in the south of Kagoshima Prefecture.

The Coast Guard received information about the accident around 2:37 p.m.

Following the report, the Coast Guard sent a patrol boat and aircraft to the disaster area.

There is currently no information on whether there are any fatalities or injuries among the people on board the Osprey aircraft.

Meanwhile, Kagoshima prefectural officials state that police received information that the Osprey landed on the coast near Yakushima Airport at around 2:37 p.m., with its left engine emitting fire.

Transport Ministry sources claim that they have information that the aircraft left the US Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, heading for the US Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture.

This is not the first crash of a V-22 Osprey of the US military. In August, three U.S. Marines were killed in a convertible plane crash. The accident occurred on the remote tropical island of Melville, north of the Australian mainland.

A total of 23 people were on board the Osprey. Three of them died, and five were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in serious condition.

Helicopters were used to help the victims and transport medical and support personnel.
