The Norwegian company NAMMO, one of the leading manufacturers of artillery ammunition, and a Ukrainian defense enterprise have signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
Herman Smetanin, Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, announced this.
The document deepens the existing cooperation, which the governments of Norway and Ukraine support at the bilateral level. It covers a wider range of ammunition, components, and materials.
According to the Minister, this cooperation will help meet Ukraine’s needs for sovereign and national ammunition production.
“NAMMO is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in Europe. I am grateful to the company’s management for their willingness to cooperate with Ukrainian manufacturers. Special thanks to Andreas Flem, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Norway, for supporting this initiative at the state level,” Smetanin said.
The Minister also reminded that last year, Ukraine started mass production of 155-mm ammunition.
However, he did not specify with whose support it was deployed.
At the end of August 2024, it was reported that Ukraine would launch the production of 155-mm shells using NAMMO technology.
The Norwegian government has allocated funding under the Nansen program, which allowed the company to transfer technology and experience to an unnamed Ukrainian partner.
In November, Militarnyi reported that since the beginning of 2024, Ukraine has produced 2.5 million mortar shells and artillery shells of various calibers.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada.
Zelenskyi added that Ukraine is increasing both its own defense production and deepening cooperation with international partners.
