The United States has announced the allocation of a new military aid package to Ukraine.
Its contents should be officially announced on Friday, March 3.
John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House stated this.
The aid mostly includes ammunition and munitions that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will need for the systems that they already have at their disposal.
Assistance to Ukraine is to be the main topic of a meeting between President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday in the United States.
According to the Reuters, the value of the new military aid package is approximately $400 million.
According to the publication’s sources, the package is expected to contain more Guided Multiple Launch Rockets (GMLRS) for HIMARS launchers, ammunition for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles, as well as armored vehicle launched bridges.
As previously reported, the package of US military aid to Ukraine was announced on February 24.
This happened on the first anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion. The value of the announced assistance is $2 billion.
Specifically, the United States is committing additional Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS and electronic warfare detection equipment, as well as critical ammunition stocks for artillery and precision fires capabilities.
The assistance is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) – therefore, the weapons will be ordered from manufacturers, in contrast to delivering equipment that is drawn down from DoD stocks.
Currently, the United States excludes the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The US military considers other support for the Defense Forces of Ukraine more important at the current stage of the war against the Russian invaders.
