Starting December 6, German Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets will begin combat missions at the 22nd Air Base in Malbork.
They will join NATO’s Air Policing Mission, which protects the airspace of the Alliance, Polskie Radio dla Zagranicy reports.
According to the Polish Dowództwo Operacyjne RSZ, the presence of German aircraft strengthens the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) and increases the level of security not only in the Polish sky but also on NATO’s eastern flank.
The Eurofighter Typhoons arrived from the Nieuwenhof airbase in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Along with the aircraft, about 150 Bundeswehr soldiers were deployed to Poland to support the mission.
According to official figures, the operation will last at least until March 2026.
The mission is a direct response to regular violations of NATO airspace by Russian aircraft and drones.
