During preparations for a US military exercise, Americans accidentally landed on the territory of Mexico and installed signs of the US Department of War.
Signs warning of a “restricted area” appeared on the beaches of the Rio Grande River, which separates the two countries. A photo with them was posted by an X user under the name Azteca.
On November 17, unidentified people in civilian clothes landed on Playa Bagdad and began to drive signs into the sand marking the territory where the US military was stationed.
The signs, written in English and Spanish, claimed that the beach was the property of the US Department of War and that the US command had declared it a restricted area.
Later, the Mexican Marines arrived and began dismantling the American signs.
The signs added that unauthorized access or any form of photography in the area was strictly prohibited.
“All persons and vehicles entering herein may be detained and searched,” the message said.
The website of the US Embassy in Mexico posted a recording of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in which he stated that the US military arrives in Mexico only at the request of the country when joint exercises are conducted.
The Pentagon added that the contractors would “work with the relevant agencies to avoid misunderstandings in the future.”
Military relations between Mexico and the United States are based primarily on security cooperation, the fight against drug cartels, and border control.
The countries share intelligence, conduct joint operations against organized crime, and strengthen technical assistance and training.
At the same time, Mexico maintains strict restrictions on the presence of foreign military on its territory. Recently it became known that the United States may launch military strikes against drug laboratories in Mexico.
