The AM-35K gun, which is part of the OSU-35K Naval Weapon System, has successfully undergone user trials In Poland.
The test was conducted by the Polish PIT-RADWAR, which is a part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa.
The shooting took place with 35×228 mm TP-T ammunition by the Polish company MESKO.
During the tests, about a hundred shots were fired — single and in bursts.
It is noted that the tests were successful and there were no complaints about the operation of the gun.
Engineers from the PIT-RADWAR consortium, Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów SA, the Military Technical University and the Naval Academy have been working on the OSU-35 Naval Weapon System for almost a decade.
The OSU-35 includes an AM-35 35-mm automatic cannon, an integrated ZGS-35 surveillance and tracking warhead, a fire control system unit, and a backup fire control post. This device consists of a thermal imaging camera, a daylight camera, a laser rangefinder (with a range of up to 30 km), a video tracker and an IKZ-50P recognition system.
The first sample of the fire system was installed in 2016 on the Kaszub ship.
All needed military research and tests have been carried out for three years.
In 2021, at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, PIT-RADWAR presented the latest version of the OSU-35, marked with the letter “K”. It should become the armament of all Polish ships of the Kormoran 2-class.
Due to the use of carbon fibers, engineers managed to reduce the weight of the OSU-35K by about a ton – from 4300 to 3300 kg.
The heart of the system is the AM-35, a 35-mm automatic naval cannon. The weapon was licensed for the 35 mm Oerlikon KDA gun and is capable of firing at a rate of fire of 550 rounds per minute at a range of approximately 5 km. This weapon is adapted for shooting not only with classic projectiles, but also with programmable ammunition.
