Ukrainian air defense hit a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the helicopter was shot down by Ukrainian troopers.
The Ka-52 attack helicopter was neutralized with the Igla man-portable surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.
Soldiers of the 25th Airborne Brigade neutralized the aircraft.
Also, the General Staff released a photo featuring a plume of smoke, probably from the downed aircraft.
Ka-52 is a Russian attack helicopter. The aircraft is capable of hitting armored and unarmored vehicles, manpower, and air targets on the battlefield. The aircraft was developed from the “Black Shark” Ka-50 helicopter.
Previously, the Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces also reported that the paratroopers shot down a Russian attack helicopter on July 24.
As noted in the statement, the air defense unit of the 25th Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully shot down a Russian Su-25 attack helicopter.
The Su-25 single-seat armored subsonic jet aircraft is designed to provide air support, as well as destroy objects with given coordinates.
For reference: the 25th Airborne Brigade is an airborne formation of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.
It is based in Hvardiiske village of the Dnipropetrovsk Region, but currently conducts combat operations in the Donetsk Region. At the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, only one battalion of the brigade was fully operational.
On July 16, 2002, the brigade was given the honorary name “Dnipropetrovska”. On August 23, 2021, the brigade was given the honorary name “Sicheslavska”.
