Ukrainian volunteers have delivered a large batch of Peugeot pickup trucks to the Air Defense Forces.
The Come Back Alive Foundation said that the new vehicles had been delivered to soldiers of an anti-aircraft machine gun battalion.
This air defense battalion covers Ukrainian skies in the northeast.
“This became possible thanks to a donation of UAH 18,732,306 from Ukrnafta company,” the foundation said.
In total, together with Ukrnafta, the foundation’s team purchased 112 four-wheel drive pickup trucks for the mobile AA fire teams of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, worth UAH 98,847,217.
The Peugeot pickup trucks are designed to help the military quickly arrive at any point in the direction of movement of Russian drones or cruise missiles.
The vehicles are to be equipped with destruction and detection equipment that will help shoot down Russian air targets at low altitudes.
Constant launches of ballistic and cruise missiles, loitering munitions, and air target simulators are depleting the resources of Ukraine’s air defense.
Ukraine is capable of using its Soviet-era and Western air defense systems against these targets.
However, the Tor, Buk, S-125, S-300, IRIS-T, NASAMS, PATRIOT, SAMP/T, HAWK, and other systems are equipped with missiles that are too few to be spent on drones.
In the spring of 2022, mobile AA fire teams on pickup trucks began to be created in Ukraine to quickly strengthen air defense.
For mobile teams, PKT, DSHKM, Maxim, western Browning machine guns, and FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS were put on turrets.
