Ukraine has launched the development of a test site for testing the state-of-the-art demining technologies, including those using artificial intelligence (AI).

The Ministry of Defense reported on this.

The Defense Ministry, together with its partners, has identified the location where the test site will be established.

Representatives of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, the United Nations Development Program, the Ministry of Economy, and the National Association of Defense Industry visited the location of the future training ground.

The meeting participants assessed the effectiveness of the existing facility and discussed the prospects of using it to test advanced demining technologies.

“Together with our partners, we have identified key areas for further work and decided to create a training and testing complex for developing the latest technologies in the field of mine action…,” Olha Drobot, a representative of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, shared.

According to her, it will not only modernize technologies but also develop innovative solutions.

The United Nations Development Program and the Ministry of Economy have expressed interest in developing this project as a basis for forming a coordination platform for innovations in humanitarian demining.

The participants of the field meeting emphasized that creating such a modern training ground in Ukraine will facilitate the development of the latest technologies that will accelerate humanitarian demining. In addition, using new technologies should improve the safety of deminers and reduce risks to civilians.

The Ministry of Defense initiated the creation of the training ground earlier in February during a meeting of representatives of various agencies.

The participants also discussed new approaches to analyzing satellite and aerial imagery for mapping mined areas.

They also discussed using neural networks to automatically recognize minefields and integrating modern artificial intelligence algorithms into planning and safe demining processes.
