In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled a Russian mechanized assault in the Petropavlivka area.
The enemy attack was stopped by soldiers of the 14th and 30th separate mechanized brigades.
The Russian command hoped to take advantage of the snowfall, expecting that the bad weather would cover the offensive.
“They hoped that the snow would cover them. It didn’t cover us or save us. The assault failed,” said Ukrainian soldiers.
The Russians used MT-LB armored personnel carriers, as well as ATVs and buggies with assault groups for the attack.
Despite the bad weather, Ukrainian drones were able to detect and destroy the Russian occupiers.
The military destroyed 17 Russian soldiers and wounded four more.
As a result of the battle, Ukrainian defenders destroyed:
German journalist Julian Röpcke of BILD published a map of the battle, which shows that the assault took place near Petropavlivka.
The village of Petropavlivka is located on the Hnilytsia River, which flows into the Oskil River two kilometers away. The road from the village leads to the city of Kupiansk.
On February 8, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian defenders repelled 13 attacks in the Kupiansk direction: towards Kupiansk, Podoliv, Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Novoosynove, Nova Kruhlyakivka, and Novoplatonivka.
Russian sabotage groups remain in Kupiansk. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on February 6.
The commander said that in the Kharkiv direction, fighting continues in the Vovchansk area. The invaders are trying to break through the defenses.
