In Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, a ground-based drone evacuated a soldier from Vovchansk after he had spent 275 days at his position.
The 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade said they made four attempts to evacuate the serviceman.
The main difficulty of the operation was that the soldier, Vladyslav, was positioned extremely close to Russian forces.
“He was located approximately ten meters from the Russian invaders. The brigade decided to carry out the evacuation using a ground drone,” the brigade said.
On December 17, the drone crew began a fourth attempt to evacuate the nearly immobile soldier from the position.
During the first hours of the operation, the rescue drone became trapped in a deep mine crater covered with snow.
Mortar unit soldiers whose positions were nearby came to assist. They helped push the drone out of the crater.
After that, the drone managed to reach a position near the building where the soldier was located.
Together with the wounded serviceman, the ground drone began its return journey.
After the evacuation, the soldier was taken to a stabilization point, where he received the necessary medical care.
Such operations are not uncommon.
Recently, a MAUL ground drone also successfully evacuated a wounded soldier, who was placed inside the drone’s armored capsule.
