The Achilles Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Battalion of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade has been expanded to a Regiment.
This was reported on the unit’s Facebook page.
From now on, the formation will be known as the 429th Achilles Separate Unmanned Aerial Systems Regiment.
The commander of the battalion and now the regiment is Captain Yurii Fedorenko, who made personal efforts to create the unit during the full-scale invasion.
“In less than three years, we have grown from a rifle company to a separate regiment of unmanned systems. Our job is to provide fire support to Ukrainian infantrymen and to eliminate the enemy on an industrial scale,” the regiment’s website says.
The Achilles’ operators drones, together with other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, have repeatedly repelled large-scale mechanized assaults by the invaders. They also destroyed expensive equipment and weapons.
Recently, the soldiers of the Achilles unit of the 92nd Brigade and the 1st Bureviy Brigade of the National Guard defeated a Russian assaultmen in the Kupyansk sector.
The Russian occupiers attempted to conduct an assault near Pishchane in the direction of Kupiansk-Vuzlove in the Kharkiv region. For this purpose, four armored personnel carriers were involved, 3 BTR-82A and 1 BTR-80 with troops inside, which were to land near the positions of Ukrainian defenders.
Aerial reconnaissance of Ukrainian units detected the enemy in time and managed to prepare to repulse the attack.
The first enemy armored personnel carrier was initially hit by a mine, causing the vehicle to stop, and was finished off by a defensive FPV drone. The same fate awaited the other combat vehicles, which tried to retreat on their own but were destroyed by drones while moving.
