The first Polish M1A1FEP Abrams tanks and M88A2 Hercules Recovery Vehicle arrived for service at the service center in Poznan.

The press service of the Polish arms concern Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) announced this on Tuesday, December 12.

The armored vehicles will be serviced at Wojskowy Zakłady Motoryzacyjne, a part of the PGZ concern.

The first two tanks and one ARV were delivered to the Polish service center the day before.

The maintenance of Abrams main battle tanks is organized jointly with the US company General Dynamics.

The parties signed the agreement on June 26, during the Abrams Suppliers conference.

The center in Poznan will service Abrams M1A2SEPv3 tanks and Abrams M1A1FEP tanks, which will be in service with the Polish Army.

Last December, the United States approved the sale of 116 Abrams M1A1 tanks, armored recovery vehicles, and ammunition to Poland. The contract to purchase these armored vehicles was signed on January 4, 2023, by the then Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

In six months, the Polish Defense Ministry received the first 14 US M1A1FEP Abrams tanks, which arrived in Szczecin on June 28.

In April 2022, Błaszczak also signed a contract to purchase 250 M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks. The first tanks in this version are planned to be delivered by the end of 2024, while all deliveries will be completed by the end of 2026.

It covers the supply of a large number of 120-mm tank ammunition and training for technical, engineering, and logistics support services and other related logistical and software elements.

Poland is purchasing US tanks to replace the T-72M/M1/M1R and PT-91 Twardy tanks transferred to Ukraine. In total, the Polish Armed Forces will receive 366 Abrams tanks.
