Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian saboteur who arrived from the Middle East.
This was reported by the SSU press service.
The detention of the enemy agent took place during a multi-stage special operation in Chernivtsi.
According to the investigation, after the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the agent was instructed by his “curators” to arrive in Ukraine to gather data about transport channels for arms and military equipment for the Defense Forces.
In addition, the man was supposed to reconnoiter the location of fuel tanks and the deployment of Ukrainian military units in Bukovyna.
The SSU noted that the detainee was on the liaison of the Russian-controlled special services of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” , has a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and a Kyiv residence permit, but for a long time was on “conservation” in one of the Middle Eastern countries.
According to counterintelligence, the enemy was planning sabotage, including explosions at railway facilities and logistics depots.
Currently, the detainee is a suspect of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization), and a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen.
A pre-trial investigation is underway to identify and prosecute other individuals involved in intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.
The operation to expose and detain the Russian agent was carried out by counterintelligence and SSU investigators in the Chernivtsi region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office.
Recently, the SSU detained a Russian agent who provided invaders with intelligence about Ukrainian military positions in the Kharkiv Region.
He turned out to be a local resident recruited by the enemy special services on the Internet.
