Civil activist and volunteer Serhii Sternenko was attacked. He was injured, and the attacker was detained.
The Security Service of Ukraine reported that they had prevented the murder.
Today, an attempt was made on his life with a firearm. SSU officers detained the attacker on the spot.
It is noted that Sternenko’s life is currently not in danger. Operational and investigative actions are underway.
Before the official report from the Security Service, the volunteer himself wrote about the attack in his Telegram channel.
“I was attacked. I am wounded,” Sternenko wrote. He later clarified that there was no threat to his life.
Later, he reported that the woman who committed the attack had been detained.
“I am grateful to the SSU for their lightning-fast response. If not for them, I would not be able to write anything anymore,” the activist emphasized.
The Sternenko Community Charitable Foundation was established to provide the Ukrainian Defense Forces with drones on a regular basis. In particular, as part of the Sky Rusoriz initiative, special drones are provided to the defense forces to destroy Russian reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This project has already shot down more than 1,000 enemy drones.
This is not the first attack on Sternenko. In 2018, he was attacked three times in Odesa, during the last of which he fatally wounded one of the attackers, Radio Liberty reports. The second attacker later fled Ukraine. The activist stated that he acted in legitimate self-defense.
In June 2020, Sternenko was served with a notice of suspicion of premeditated murder and illegal possession of a cold weapon. However, in February 2022, the Supreme Court overturned his conviction for illegal handling of weapons.
In December 2023, Sternenko reported that the court had closed the case regarding his alleged excessive use of self-defense.
