A contract to production domestic 105-mm BORAN light howitzers has been signed in Turkey.
The agreement was concluded between the Turkish Defense Industry Board (SSB) and the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE A.Ş).
The goal of this cooperation is to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces with modern 105-mm howitzers.
The 105-mm BORAN howitzer is designed to destroy artillery and mortar batteries, tanks, and other armored vehicles. It is also intended for the destruction of field fortifications and other defensive structures and for the suppression of manpower and firing equipment of the enemy.
The maximum firing range of the BORAN howitzer is 17 km when using long-range ammunition, and its is 1,780 kg. It can be transported both by air and ground transport.
The howitzers are light and can be delivered to the area of military operations even by transport helicopters.
The fire rate of the BORAN howitzer reaches 6 rounds per minute. The gun can operate in weather conditions between -32 and +44 degrees Celsius.
The fire control system for BORAN was developed by Aselsan. It allows the howitzer to operate day and night using electro-optical and laser rangefinders. Fire management and fire control missions are carried out via computer, Muzzle Velocity Radar (MVR), and Inertial Navigation System (INS).
In January 2021, Turkey adopted a 105-mm BORAN light towed howitzer of national development.
The 105mm light towed howitzer has passed 24 tests and meets all international standards.
