The 92nd Separate Assault Brigade, while repelling a mechanized assault in the Kupiansk direction, hit a rare GMZ-3 armored minelayer vehicle.
This was reported by the commander of the Achilles Battalion of the 92nd Assault Brigade.
It is reported that the attacks had taken place on January 3-4, 2025. They involved the forces of the Achilles strike drone battalion of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade, the units of the 1st Presidential Operational Brigade of the National Guard and the paratroopers of the 77th Airmobile Brigade.
The attacks took place near the village of Zahryzove, south of the town of Kupiansk.
The published video shows the defeat and destruction of enemy vehicles using FPV drones of the AHILLES Battalion.
In total, the battalion’s fighters managed to destroy 1 T-72 tank, 3 infantry fighting vehicles, 1 MT-LB, and hit another infantry fighting vehicle and a rare GMZ-3 armoured minelaying vehicle.
Up to this point, ORYX project interns have recorded the loss of only 6 such vehicles by the Russian army, 3 of which were captured during Ukrainian offensives in 2022.
The GMZ-3 is designed for mechanized anti-tank mining during combat and can carry up to 208 anti-tank mines.
Mines can be placed on the ground surface without camouflage or in the ground with camouflage.
The tracked minefield destroyer ensures the installation of minefields in expected tank-hazardous areas, as well as in the direct repulsion of attacks by enemy tank and mechanized units.
A minefield platoon of three GMZ-3 vehicles can set up a minefield of up to 2.5-3 kilometers in length within 30 minutes.
At the end of December 2024, the soldiers of the 92nd Brigade managed to halt an assault by 12 units of enemy armored vehicles, of which one BMP-2 and two tanks were destroyed.
