Fifty American JLTV armored vehicles were delivered to Lithuania in January.
The press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on this.
This is the third batch of JLTVs delivered under the second contract with the United States to purchase such equipment.
The defense ministry noted that the purchase of one of the world’s most modern armored vehicles was initiated to meet the operational needs of the Lithuanian military.
After the delivery of the remaining JLTV armored vehicles under the second contract in 2025, the Lithuanian army will have a total of 500 units of such equipment.
The Lithuanian Army received the previous batch of over 150 JLTV armored vehicles last August. The first 35 vehicles under the second contract were delivered in March 2024.
The procurement of JLTV armored vehicles for the Lithuanian army began in 2019 with the signing of a contract between the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense and the United States government.
The first agreement provided for the supply of 200 army off-road vehicles. The first batch of vehicles arrived in August 2021, and the last one was delivered last December.
A certain number of these vehicles are armed with a remote-controlled CROWS system with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.
In October 2022, a second contract was signed for 300 additional armored vehicles, including weapons, spare parts, and necessary tools. The JLTVs will be armed with 12.7 mm M2 QCB heavy machine guns.
Also, short-range air defense systems RBS70 NG, which Lithuania ordered in July last year, will be installed on JLTV armored vehicles. Delivery of these air defense systems is scheduled for 2025-2027.
The new equipment will significantly enhance the Lithuanian army’s current capabilities, particularly its mobility and personnel protection.
