Ukraine financed the industrial production of the domestic 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled howitzer.

Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, said that the ministry has funded the new Ukrainian artillery system in the spring of 2022.

Reznikov emphasized that the Bohdana system had been successfully tested in combat conditions.

The minister also published a photo of a new chassis for serial 155-mm self-propelled howitzers of Ukrainian production.

“On the photo – Ukrainian Bohdana 155mm self-propelled gun. Western-made tanks, which will arrive in a few months, will be supported at the front by Ukrainian – in every understanding of this word – artillery,” the Minister of Defense said.

Oleksii Reznikov noted that his position is that Ukraine should be as independent as possible in all components of defense support, where possible.

“This makes our country a desirable partner, strengthens our position. That is why the Ministry of Defense will increase efforts in the context of stimulating Ukrainian manufacturers,” the minister said.

Now the Ukrainian defense and industrial complex is deploying production in new locations to increase capacity.

“The Ministry of Defense did not advertise this, but all last year we did not stop purchasing weapons and military equipment from domestic manufacturers,” said Oleksii Reznikov.

Development of the first 2S22 Bohdana wheel 155mm artillery system in Ukraine began in 2016 at the PJSC “KZTS.” The production of a barrel for this self-propelled howitzer was one of the important aspects of Bohdana development. Similar equipment was not produced in Ukraine before.

The howitzer was installed on the chassis KrAZ-63221 with an armored cabine. At the end of January 2022, it was reported that Bohdana successfully passed preliminary fire tests: it fired 450 shots and reached a range of 42 kilometers.

Even without completing the full test cycle, the Bohdana self-propelled howitzers fell into the war.
