Soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, named after King Danylo, have received French VAB armored personnel carriers (APCs).
The brigade shared photos of its troops training with the new vehicles, emphasizing their tactical versatility.
“Soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo are practicing tactical skills with the support of the French VAB armored personnel carrier. The VAB APC supports infantry with firepower and provides evacuation capabilities during combat,” the brigade noted.
Photos suggest the vehicles have been upgraded with additional armor and a frame designed for camouflage and anti-drone netting.
Each APC is equipped with a turret-mounted 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine gun.
As of early March 2025, the 24th Brigade is actively engaged in battles against Russian forces near Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.
In related developments, the brigade started deploying American ADAM artillery shells in January 2025.
ADAM has the form of an artillery projectile with six disks, each of which was divided into six wedge-shaped mines. In total, one M692 projectile contains 36 M72 anti-personnel mines.
The VAB, manufactured with a welded hull of armored steel, offers protection against small arms fire and shrapnel.
It features a control compartment for the driver and commander, a rear landing area for up to ten infantrymen, and a six-cylinder diesel engine producing 320 horsepower.
The soldiers are embarked and disembarked through two rear doors.
The vehicle reaches a top speed of 110 km/h on roads and has a range of up to 1,000 km.
The VAB is amphibious, equipped with two water cannons at the rear for crossing water obstacles.
