Russian law enforcement officers have detained a Belarusian citizen who was wanted in his home country for evading military conscription.
This was reported by Baza.
The operation took place in an anti-cafe on the Kozachky Lane, where security forces tracked down and captured the fugitive. The man was wanted internationally under Article 435 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The effectiveness of such detentions is ensured by a joint database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, and the KGB, created within the framework of the ‘Union State.’
Russian special services systematically track Belarusian conscripts using facial recognition cameras, mobile phone billing, analysis of bank transactions, and data on registration at institutions.
The extradition procedure between the countries is simplified as much as possible. As soon as the Belarusian authorities open a case, the data is automatically sent to the Interstate Information Bank, to which Russian security forces have direct access.
After arrest, the detainee is sent to a pre-trial detention center. Since both states consider evading military conscription a criminal offense, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russian Federation usually quickly approves requests for extradition from its Belarusian colleagues. Although the official transfer process can take several months, the special services often use a simpler scheme. They cancel the evader’s migration documents and forcibly transport him to the border, where he is immediately handed over to Belarusian authorities.
