Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to convey to Tehran a message that Israel has no plans to attack Iran.
Radio Liberty reported this, citing the Israeli TV channel Kan.
According to reports, Netanyahu and Putin have recently had several telephone conversations amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
The Kremlin reported the last phone call on November 15. The leaders discussed the ceasefire in Gaza, Iran’s nuclear program, and the situation in Syria. A month earlier, Putin said that Russia was receiving signals from Israel that it did not want to confront Iran.
According to Kan, Israel fears that Tehran, considering a strike inevitable, may launch a preemptive attack on Israeli territory. Netanyahu’s message through Moscow is aimed at preventing such a development.
Speaking in Parliament on January 5, the Israeli Prime Minister warned that any attack by Iran would have “serious consequences.”
The news of Netanyahu’s signal to Tehran came amid mass protests in Iran.
