The Ukrainian military struck a train carrying oil products in the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region near Tokmak using a UAV.
This was reported by the Telegram channel of the self-proclaimed “Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Zaporizhzhia region.”
“In Chernihiv district, officials of the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation extinguished the fire of three oil tanks as a result of UAV strikes,” they said.
“52 specialists and 18 units of equipment were working at the scene. … A fire train was involved [in the firefighting].”
They also claim that there were no casualties.
According to the photos and videos, the train was struck at night, but the fire could not be completely extinguished until the morning.
This is not the first attempt to attack Russian railroad logistics in the area using UAVs. In late June, the Attack Drone Company “Ronins” of the 65th Mechanized Brigade published a video of them trying to struck a train using a long-range FPV drone.
OSINT analyst EjShahid then geolocated the site of the strike about 30 kilometers from the front line near Tokmak.
And in early August, the same unit repeated an attack on railroad logistics, targeting a train again.
In both cases, the trains were pushing empty railroad platforms in front of them. This was probably intended to protect the train from railroad mines, so that in the event of an explosion, an empty platform would be damaged, not an expensive locomotive or valuable cargo.
At the end of August in Zaporizhzhia, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Russian 1L260 Zoopark-M1 radar.
Operators of the Shark reconnaissance drone from the 15th Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade “Black Forest” discovered a Russian counter-battery station 1L260 Zoopark-M1 in the Zaporizhzhia region. The soldiers adjusted their fire, after which they struck the object with high-precision weapons. A GMLRS shell destroyed the Russian counter-battery station with a direct hit.
